This is not a tip, but my experience share to people who are taking N2 exam tomorrow
While N4 and N5 have no ひっかけ, and N3 is a middle level that changes from beginner to intermediate, N2 is quite a stone to mark your effort as "start to be able to understand general Japanese kaiwa and knowledge ".
And unluckily, we can't say that we will 100% pass the exam if we study carefully only 1 book. There will be some quizz/vocabulary that you may have never seen it before, or, you know each of their Kanji but when it combines each other, you completely don't know how to read. It's matter of Onyomi and Kunyomi. And after being stress of Kanji-VOC part, you come with Grammar, super hard to choice the correct answer though you know all its meaning, but can't be sure it must be ended with でしょう or させていただけますか, etc...
After all, reading paragraph, you understand but the answer is too あいまい to choose, because all sounds correct lol. This is the most crazy for both N2 and N1. Not only you but maybe even Japanese native they will feel the same. " It"s not wrong, but not sure be to correct answer because another one sounds correct too"
Section 1: KANJI - VOC - Grammar
1. Kanji
Learn carefully the ready way of Kanji when it stands alone.
It sometimes difficults you by combining the words of 2 Kanji, but most trouble you when it goes alone and you don't know how to read.
For sure, learning Kanji combination is also difficult. I don't learn Onyomi and Kunyomi to be honest, I just try to remember a set of word.
Goodluck, and quickly choose randomly the answer of the quizz that you never know or NOT ABLE to calculate the answer, in this Kanji section. Just wasting time to think how it read because simply, we CAN'T. Give the time to other parts.
2. VOC
Learn carefully the sense of each word, not only what it means.
Because there will be quizz to test the method and what scene is appropriate to use the word. This is matter of habit how you learn, not a tip.
Same like what I recommend in N5/N4 exam tips, you must fullfill all even when you don't know the answer. There maybe some irregular way to read specific word, but from my experience, the answer could be some very "often-to-see in the text-book", or at least often-to-listen from official exercise in textbook.
Don't forget to review オノマトペ, it will help you gain score if you know exactly what it mean. No hope for foreigners to imagine how it sound and what it mean to Japanese native once you don't know it meaning.
GRAMMAR
Sorry to say that I almost failed most of grammar quizz. It's somehow crazy to me.
But as my experience, the correct answer is often the "simple structure" in 4 answer selection. Don't be much overthinking about the long answer. And yeah, if you know you can't, just fullfill randomly and step up to Reading part. Nightmare is still in front of you.
And, even when you failed all Grammar quizz, you still have a chance to pass if your KANJI VOC are well done.
Because they don't see grammar as an independent section when doing score distribution. It"s a combination of Kanji-VOC-Grammar.
Section 2: Listening
It has been a long time since I have taken N2 exam. But as I remember, here is the way I solved Chokai part.
- Have a look in all pages in general. Somehow my brain will not be shocked when CDs starts.
- Mark keyword from selections. Listen carefully and remove the selection thats confirmed to be wrong from Kaiwa. This helps you to raise the rate of selecting correct one. Rarely, at the final of kaiwa, they will decide to choose the selection that they denied at the beginning of kaiwa, but yeah, nothing is impossible.
- If the selections are images, then look at the "thing" in image, and guess an action (not only the vocabulary of that thing) too. So that you will imagine the story in advance.

- And not like N4 N5, most N2 N1 are ひっかけ quizz, so you need to listen carefully if you find kaiwa content sound 100% to selection. It might be similiar meaning word or verb, action, but difficult to be correct answer if it sounds 100% like the selection.
- Take note the kaiwa flow step by step in order, and divide MALE/FEMALE colum.
- In final part, you need to listen the tone and melody of the speaker to imagine it's an invitation or question or complain. Then you will somehow catch the correct response.

📝 JLPT is over — what's next?
It’s been a while since the July JLPT. No matter what your result was — pass or not — it’s time to reset and gear up for the December exam. 💪
But hey, studying for JLPT doesn't always have to be all serious grammar and kanji drills...
To break the tension a bit, I want to share with you a super fun Japanese book that teaches everyday slang — the kind locals use in real life (and definitely not in the test 😆).
This book is packed with real expressions you’ll hear in anime, at izakayas, on the street, or online chats. Perfect for improving your kaiwa (会話) and understanding casual conversations.
> ⚠️ P.S. Only use this with friends — not your boss or coworkers unless you want to be fired 😂
If you find it helpful, feel free to share with other learners. That’s the best way to support us!

🏛️ Government forms new control tower
On July 15, 2025, Japan’s government launched an administrative “control tower” within the Cabinet Secretariat.
Its aim: address public concerns over the rising number of foreign residents (~3.8 M, ~3 % of the population) by handling issues like crime, over‑tourism, and misuses of administrative systems .
---
🗳️ Foreigners become a major election issue
With the July 20 Upper House election approaching, foreign resident policy has emerged as a hot-button topic .
The ruling LDP and coalition partner Komeito are campaigning on a “zero illegal foreigners” platform, proposing tougher rule enforcement.
Japan Innovation Party backs permitting foreigners only if they economically benefit Japan.
Sanseito promotes nationalist “Japan First” policies—suggesting loyalty checks, limiting welfare/public service hiring, even restricting property purchases by foreigners .
---
📈 Political balance and social tension
Opposition parties (CDP, JCP, Reiwa Shinsengumi, SDP) warn that stricter foreigner policies could fuel xenophobia .
The government's move to centralize immigration-related policies via the new “control tower” reflects the public unease—fueled by perception of crime, cultural shifts, and system misuse connected to foreigners .
---
🧭 Context & significance
Japan’s foreign population recently hit a record high, driven by labor shortages and more relaxed immigration in response to an ageing population .
This demographic shift is prompting political recalibration—balancing economic needs with rising public conservatism and identity concerns.
---
🎯 Bottom line
Japan is actively restructuring its immigration and integration policies amid a sharp increase in foreign residents. The creation of a centralized oversight body and the prominence of “foreign-related” issues in this summer’s election reflect both demographic necessities and social anxieties. While nationalist parties gain momentum, progressive voices caution against the risks of exclusion and discrimination.
