Every third unemployed person in Germany is a foreigner without a German passport
The number of long-term unemployed foreigners in Germany continues to grow. According to the Federal Employment Agency, already every third person who is in the status of "long-term unemployed" does not have German citizenship. In 2018, there were about 23% of them, and by 2024 the share increased to 33% - this is about 317 thousand people out of almost 972 thousand registered long-term unemployed.
The information was published by the Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany party Rene Springer after a request to the agency. According to official information, more than half of the registered — about 533 thousand people — remain without work for more than two years, 260 thousand-for more than four years.
Official reports indicate that the main increase in the number of unemployed people without citizenship is associated with migration in recent years. Many of them are still looking for work. Therefore, among all foreign unemployed people, the share of those who do not work for more than a year is 29%, while among German citizens-38%.
Among the foreigners on the list of long-term unemployed, most of them come from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. Turks, citizens of Ukraine and Eastern European countries are also visible in the statistics. The general trend shows that the number of unemployed migrants is growing, even if their share among all unemployed people does not look critically high.

State Department Blueprint: USAID Faces Major Overhaul as Trump Administration Recalibrates Foreign Aid Strategy 🌍
Breaking News 📊
In a significant policy shift revealed Thursday, State Department officials have drafted a comprehensive plan to restructure America's international aid architecture, including renaming and dramatically narrowing USAID's mission while embedding it within the State Department—a move that signals the Trump administration's intent to realign foreign assistance with national security priorities and create a more direct counterweight to China's global influence.
Key Developments 🎯
Restructuring Proposal:
• USAID to become "U.S. Agency for International Humanitarian Assistance" with limited scope
• State Department to assume control of politically-oriented programs including democracy promotion
• Millennium Challenge Corporation and Trade Development Agency to merge under Development Finance Corporation
• Humanitarian focus to prioritize global health, food security and disaster response
• Counterbalancing China's Belt and Road Initiative central to strategic realignment
Core Statement 💫
"The plan would include changing the name of the U.S. Agency for International Development to the U.S. Agency for International Humanitarian Assistance; severely curbing its focus to issues such as global health, food security and disaster response; and embedding it within the State Department."- From internal State Department document Political Impact 🛡 Administrative Implications: • Proposal follows February shutdown of USAID headquarters in Washington • Congressional authorization likely required for significant institutional changes • Energy resource access prioritized in alignment with Trump administration goals • Rubio's State Department positioning to lead foreign policy implementation • Development Finance Corporation to spearhead private sector investment strategy Deeper Pattern A fundamental strategic pivot emerges: This proposed restructuring represents a substantial realignment of how America projects soft power abroad, pivoting from traditional broad-based development assistance toward more targeted humanitarian aid and market-driven investment approaches—potentially reshaping decades of U.S. foreign policy doctrine while centralizing more authority within the State Department. Geopolitical Stakes 💰 Key Indicators: • Document explicitly frames restructuring as counterweight to China's Belt and Road Initiative • Infrastructure, energy and technology investments prioritized under consolidated agency • Democracy promotion and human rights programs would remain but under State Department control • Proposal follows weeks after mass staff departures from USAID headquarters • Implementation timeline and congressional response remain unclear Critical Question Will this restructuring successfully create a more efficient foreign assistance framework that advances American interests, or will the dramatic institutional changes undermine decades of development relationships and expertise? #USAIDRestructuring #TrumpForeignPolicy #StateDepartmentReform #ChinaCompetition #ForeignAid Think About It: When does streamlining foreign assistance become abandonment of global leadership? 🤔 📱 American Оbserver - Stay up to date on all important events 🇺🇸
